I have to be honest and admit that I only began attending Metro East several years ago simply because my family attended. For many, having your entire family go to church together is a common occurrence, but as someone who comes from a divorced family, this was truly a miracle! I was away at college and was only able to come on weekends that I came home, but as soon as I graduated I began attending on a more regular basis and eventually got plugged into the college and career ministry, Downtown Christian Fellowship. I was always taken aback at how friendly people were to me, and how quickly they would approach me and talk to me as if we’d already known each other for years.
A couple of years later, the opportunity to intern with the student ministry for the summer came up and I jumped at the chance. I immediately fell in love and the rest is history. I never for one second ever imagined that God would have put me in youth ministry, and yet, now I’m so glad He did and I don’t want to do anything else! As it turns out, God’s plan was waaaay better than mine ever was, and much more suited to the gifts He’s given me. And now he’s given me the opportunity to be the mentor that I never had when I was a teenager, and I’m so excited to get to pour into the lives of all the students in our ministry. It’s my greatest hope that each and every teen that walks through our door is acknowledged, loved, preached the gospel, and taught how to live it out on a daily basis through our example and encouragement. I never thought the day would come when I could say that I actually love a church, but the day has arrived and I truly do LOVE this church, and being able to serve here at Metro East is one of the greatest joys I’ve experienced in my young life.
