Watch Your Life!
On Monday I gave the staff the following questions regarding their spiritual health. They were taken from a book by Don Whitney called 10 Questions To Diagnose Your Spiritual Health. Here are the 10 questions:
1. Do you thirst for God?
2. Are you governed increasingly by God's Word?
3. Are you more loving?
4. Are you more sensitive to God's presence?
5. Do you have a growing concern for the spiritual and temporal needs of others?
6. Do you delight in the Bride of Christ?
7. Are the spiritual disciplines increasingly important to you?
8. Do you still grieve over sin?
9. Are you a quicker forgiver?
10. Do you yearn for heaven and to be with Jesus?
Once you read these questions prayerful there is a good bit of conviction that piles up in your heart. The only way to really cover all of these things is to preach the Gospel to yourself. Here is what Jerry Bridges says that looks like:
"To preach the Gospel to yourself then means, that you continually face up to your own sinfulness and then flee to Jesus through faith in His shed blood and righteous life. It means that you appropriate, again by faith, the fact that Jesus fully satisfied the law of God, that he is your propitiation, and that God’s holy wrath is no longer directed toward you."
Remember that God accepts you on the basis of Jesus, not on the basis of your performance. Therefore, you can obey Him and passionately pursue ways to please Him.
Love ya,
Pastor Greg
Ahh yes, sweet repentance. The Father running up the hill, wrapping his arms and coat around you, and putting the ring on your finger is a welcome home that occurs many a blessed time. Thank you Jesus! And then we eat.
What a good God.
