My Top Reads Of 2011

Here are the best books I read in 2011. My library is open to our church, so if there is a title you'd like to read, please come by the office and checkout my copy.

Preaching and Preachers

This is the best book on the importance and weight of preaching that I've read. Zondervan is releasing a new edition in 2012 with essays from contemporary preachers like Mark Dever and Tim Keller.

Ecclesiastes NICOT

Yes, I read this entire commentary during the course of our Ecclesiates sermon series. I usually do not read them cover to cover, but this one shaped my understanding and preaching of Ecclesiastes like none of the others I used.

Humilitas

This was a fascinating look at humility from a historical perspective. Get it!

With

You can live under God, over God, for God, or WITH God. That is the premise of this book.

Counterfeit Gospels

We had Trevin Wax at our church in 2011 to share about this book. It helped me understand the difference between the implications of the Gospel and the story of the Gospel. We have a few copies to giveaway if you want one.

Between Two Worlds

This book was part of the requirements for my DMin seminar at SEBTS. Stott was ahead of his time when he wrote this book!

Redemption Accomplished and Applied

One of the classic books on the atonement. You may not agree with all Murray says, but his arguments are worth considering.

Christians Are Hate-Filled Hypocrites

This book debunks some of the stat-myths that tend to float around about the church and Christianity. The divorce rate is NOT higher among Christians than athiests! Read this and be challenged and encouraged.

Letters To Malcolm

CS Lewis wrote this book. Enough said.

The Philosophy of Tolkien

Is God in The Lord of the Rings? Peter Kreeft answers that question in this book.

The Lord of the Rings

I didn't entirely finish the Trilogy last year, I am still in The Return of the King. But I've made a committment to never stop reading these books, so I have time.

I often ask young men how important reading is? They usually don't have an answer so I explain that God inspired the Bible which He wants us to read. Reason I ask is that most young men don't read enough. When I hear someone has read a book I will ask how has what you read affected how you think or act?
One of the things I think is missing from the modern day church is testimonies in sunday morning service, Sunday school,or other small groups.
