I was raised in a Christian home and attended church regularly as a child, so I understood I would go forward one day and accept Christ.  When I was in fourth grade everybody in my Sunday school class was receiving Christ and being baptized.  I hadn’t made that decision but was feeling some pressure.  One Sunday, I decided to go forward because I knew all my friends were praying for me to be saved and I didn’t want to disappoint them.  As I talked with the pastor and my parents, I knew all the right answers but not sure I felt what I was saying.  It wasn’t until I was 19 that I felt the Holy Spirit telling me that I didn’t have a personal relationship with Christ.  That is when I accepted the Lord as my personal Savior.

My husband Jim and I moved to Wichita in the late 1980s and began attending Metropolitan Baptist Church.  During this time a group of members started a satellite church in the Andover area.  We decided to move to that church, now known as Metro East Baptist Church.  I was approached by the Senior Pastor in 2000 to serve as the Children’s Ministry Coordinator.  I had previously taught school for 12 years as an elementary teacher.

As the Children’s Coordinator, I plan the curriculum we use with the children, recruit our teaching staff and oversee all things related to children in grades K-5. What l love about Metro East is that we started out with a vision of reaching out into the community to families that didn’t have a home church.  Our goal was to minister to those who hadn’t found a church and to others who hadn’t found Christ yet.  I love the history of this church, how it was built, and how the people are connected with each other through our growing fellowship.  My hope for Metro East is to become a church with a heart for the lost, and that we continue to follow God’s plan for the church, not our own.
